USC Madhatter Knits Club

May 17, 2021

USC Madhatter Knits is a newly registered club and a 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to helping the lives of preemies and their families.  Our original and current mission is to advocate for preemies by knitting small beanies.  These tiny beanies serve to help preemies maintain a stable body temperature and retain body heat.  If they fulfill this goal, preemies can leave the NICU and safely return back to their families.

In addition to knitting beanies, Madhatter Knits is dedicated to helping out in the pandemic times to aid immunocompromised pregnant women by packaging and donating Maternal Protection Care Kits.  In collaboration with Tzu Chi Foundation, we have organized kits that contain nitrile gloves, alcohol spray, and masks.

In total, in this past semester, we have donated over 500 hats to local hospitals, and over 200 Maternal Protection Care Kits.

For people who are interested in helping preemies and their families, we are in need of volunteers.  No knitting experience is needed and there will be several workshops held to teach those who want to learn how to help. We are also looking for E-board members so please sign up here if interested.  To learn more, please email kathryn.huang.1@usc.edu, and please find our website here.
