In 2009, Congress first designated October as Filipino American History Month (FAHM), a month-long commemoration and appreciation for the Filipino experience throughout American history. This October, we have the opportunity to celebrate FAHM on the USC campus and learn more about Filipino American history through the award-winning short film “When We Danced.”

“When We Danced” tells the story of a Filipino immigrant who leaves his homeland in search of a better life in America. The film won “Best Short Film” (Grand Jury Award) and “Best Editing” at the 23rd Annual Beverly Hills Film Festival when it premiered at the TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood in April 2023. The film was the recipient of the Panavision (Lightiron) Post Production Grant and features an all-Filipino cast (one of whom acted for this first time in his 80s and has lived through some of the events depicted in the film).
