Frequently Asked Questions
These FAQs for the USC Viterbi SURE, USC-Amazon SURE, and USC-PCC SURE programs should answer most general questions about eligibility, application process, and expectations for participation.
Filling out an application does not guarantee a position. We have a limited amount of positions and will do our best to match students to appropriate positions based on availability.
Current USC students are only eligible for the USC-Amazon SURE program. USC students can also apply to the CURVE program during the fall semester.
Unfortunately, the USC SURE programs are only open to US Citizens, permanent residents, and DACA status students who are currently residing in the US.
Undocumented students must be DACA recipients to eligible for the SURE programs. USC students can also explore additional resources to receive monetary support for unpaid internships.
Yes, as long as you meet the eligibility criteria for a SURE program, you may apply to it. The application will ask if you would like to apply to another SURE program, and it will use the same application materials you have uploaded. Ultimately, however, you will only be placed in one SURE program for the summer.
SURE Fellows should expect a Monday-Friday schedule of 35-40 hours/week for 8 weeks.
Yes. In addition to your research commitments, you are required to attend professional development sessions over the course of the program. There will also be optional social events throughout the summer.
We discourage this. USC Viterbi SURE and USC-Amazon SURE include on-campus housing as part of the program so that SURE fellows can have a rich and immersive experience with their cohorts. The exception is USC-PCC SURE, since that program does not cover on-campus housing.
Yes, however, mileage reimbursement will be at the current IRS rate and only up to the cost of a round-trip ticket from your nearest airport to LAX, whichever is less.
The USC Housing apartments will house 2-4 students. If you are selected for the USC Viterbi or USC-Amazon SURE program, you will be asked to complete a housing survey. We will do our best to pair roommates according to preferences, but this is not guaranteed.
