Viterbi Undergraduate Advising

The Journey Begins Here

Academic Advising

How does advising work?

During your time at USC, you will be assigned an academic advisor. Your advisor will help you register for courses during orientation, recommend semesterly courses, help you find student organizations.., and everything else that comes with getting acclimated to campus!

Viterbi students meet with an advisor every semester to check-in, update course plans, and continue to stay connected to resources. In addition to Mandatory Advisement, students are welcome to visit their advisor during scheduled appointment or drop-in hours, as offered by the major department.

The Advising Timeline

Beginning of the Semester

Your assigned advisor is there to help answer any questions you have about your recommended course plan  before the add/drop deadline.

Middle of the Semester

You will receive communication for mandatory advisement and must meet with an advisor before registering for next semester’s classes.

Once registration begins, your advisor is focused on making sure you are able to register for your recommended classes.

End of Semester

After you have registered for classes, your advisor is still available to talk with you about any questions you may have.
