Yes. VLP services are for Viterbi students and Pre-Engineering students only.  USC has many other resources for students in departments outside of engineering. 

Check out the Kortschak Center for Learning and Creativity, the Math Center, Supplemental Instruction and the Writing Center.

VLP Tutoring and other VLP services are 100% FREE for Viterbi students. There are no charges, fees, or other costs to students who use the VLP's offerings.

If no hours appear for a particular class, all the tutors for that particular class are currently booked. You can instead attend Drop-in Hours for assistance. Additionally, be sure to check back on our Make a Tutoring Appointment page for newly opened hours (i.e. cancellations or new availabilities).

Yes, Drop-in Tutoring is available! Please review our Drop-in Tutoring page for hours and availability of tutors. At this time, Drop-in Tutoring is only available in-person (no online access available).

Kindly note that Drop-in Tutoring is first come, first serve and may be held as group sessions to accommodate multiple students. To guarantee one-on-one tutoring at your preferred time, or receive virtual tutoring, be sure to schedule a session with a tutor in advance. You can see a list of all our tutors and their courses on our Meet the Tutors page.

Get ready for your session starting your assignment or studying for your test in advance of your appointment in order to identify what you want to focus on during your session. Be sure to write down your questions and have them ready for your tutor at the start of the session. Your time with your tutor will be much more productive if you are prepared with specific topics or assignments to discuss!

Our tutors are here to help - but the end goal of tutoring is to help students build their skills and gain the confidence needed to successfully master course materials on their own. A good rule of thumb for productive tutoring is one hour, per subject, per week. The VLP has a firm limit of 2 hours, per subject, per week.

Note that sessions are limited to 1 hour in length. If you need more time, please book another session with a tutor, join a Drop-in Hour, or attend a VLP study event.

We ask that you respect the time of our tutors and allow other students to access tutoring. Students who book excessive sessions or cancel/no-show without notice will have their access to tutoring restricted.

Of course! Many students come to VLP on a weekly basis to see a specific tutor. To ensure you receive your preferred tutor and session time, be sure to book each appointment in advance or sign up with our VL Pairs program to meet on a consistent basis with a tutor.

If you need to cancel 24 hours or more before your scheduled session, log in to SetMore to cancel the session and our system will automatically notify your tutor.

If you need to cancel less than 24 hours before your scheduled session, contact the VLP Team  viterbilearningprogram@usc.edu to cancel and we will notify your tutor.

Please note that excessive cancellations may result in restrictions or bans from using VLP academic support services in the future. Our tutors have limited time and high demand for tutoring sessions - help yourself and your fellow students by double-checking your availability before scheduling a session.
