Pre-Engineering (PEGR)
FAQ
Your entire academic history is considered, with a focus on any courses that are engineering major requirements. Typically, this includes any math, science, or engineering course that is required for your intended engineering degree.
For specific courses required for review per major, please see the following "Required pre-engineering courses” tab.
You cannot be admitted to Viterbi based solely on exam scores or transfer courses. The Admission Committee reviews your academic performance at USC, with particular attention to your coursework in the required pre-engineering classes.
If you have transferred in or waived one of the required courses, then the next USC course in the sequence taken in residency will be required for review. For more information on how AP and IB credits may apply toward USC degree requirements, please visit the AP & IB Credits page: https://viterbiadmission.usc.edu/credit/
At the end of each semester (Spring, Summer, and Fall), the admission application will open for all Pre‑Engineering students. Students who have met all admission requirements are encouraged to submit their applications for review.
The application review process will begin after the final grade due date, and the review period typically requires approximately 2-3 weeks.
This depends on what advice you need:
- Contact a Pre‑Engineering Advisor for guidance on the pre‑engineering process, required coursework, admission requirements, and Viterbi resources.
- Contact your Current Academic Advisor for mandatory advising, lifting advising holds, course planning for your current major, and questions about transfer credits or your STARS report.
- After completing the Pre-Engineering process and admitted to Viterbi, you will be assigned a Engineering Major Advisor to support your transition into the major; you will work with that advisor only after admission to Viterbi.
