Office of Extraordinary Innovation
Summer Research Fellow Program
Purpose: The Office of Extraordinary Innovation (OEI) at the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) is inviting local scholars in transportation-related fields such as planning, economics, engineering, operations and public policy to apply to work as an OEI Summer Research Fellow. The OEI will be developing and researching a number of innovative concepts for improving mobility in the Los Angeles area and the Research Fellow will be an essential part of the team.
Fellowship Term: The fellowship is a summer-long term. Metro recognizes that not all schools are on the same schedule and will be flexible to accommodate the best possible candidate for this position.
Duties: The Summer Research Fellow will be responsible, like all members of the OEI team, for generating and implementing innovative ideas for improving transportation and mobility in LA County. However, the Summer Research Fellow will be called on to play a lead role in conducting the research associated with the development of innovative concepts. This will include analyzing best practices from around the world, researching the successes and failures of similar policies elsewhere, and gathering effective data with which we can develop new ideas for Los Angeles.
Qualifications: The student must be a graduate or undergraduate student in transportation or a transportation-related field with an interest in applied research.
Compensation: Metro will pay the Summer Research Fellow an hourly wage of $15 per hour, without benefits, not to exceed $5,000.
Application Process: Interested applicants should submit:
- A resume along with a cover letter explaining their interest in OEI and the specific skills they would bring to help make OEI a success.
Please submit applications by email to Glendora Walker at WalkerG@metro.net by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 22, 2016, with “OEI Summer Research Fellowship” in the subject line.
